Common sense is a life preserving and protecting ability that is either taught by a parent, or learned by a child by the parent's example and by self-experience or the experiences of others that a child sees happen etc.
In today's world, at least in Canada and the United States there seems to be too much emphasis on success and learning and recreation, and almost none about what happens when you do the wrong thing, which is part of common sense.
This affects finances, health, education, careers and personal and professional relationships.
Parents must start behaving within the limits of their budgets and physical abilities and eating properly so that their children will learn these things by example.
In addition, a parent whose child wants something that the kid next door has, and which the parent cannot afford, must explain that the family doesn't have that much money as the family next door and that that is why the child cannot have it.
That is NOT cruelty or being mean!
Wake up and smell the coffee!!
I hope to write more on this topic very soon.
Oh yes.... if you have small children and live in an apartment, keep the windows and balcony and patio doors locked when you are not beside the child, especially if the child is young. Use your common sense!!
Too many children are falling out of windows and off of balconies!
